Racing 92 breathes after a victory against Toulon

The Ile-de-France residents were reassured by winning against Rugby Club Toulonnais (22-6) at the opening of the sixth day.

Racing ended up moving forward to sign for the first time this season a second consecutive victory against a very lackluster Toulon team (20-6). It’s as if the match never started. For 40 minutes, that is to say during the entire first period, the RCT and Racing 92 did not really excite the sparse audience at the Créteil stadium. Before the first clearing with a crossing from Maxime Baudonne and a relay from Nolann Le Garrec, we mainly witnessed a series of approximations and a series of turnovers in the middle of the field with two defenses who did not want to give up.

Racing timidly tried a few shots, notably with an agitated Max Springs, but they always missed a detail. Like in this action where Lancaster did not understand the will of Fickou who had crossed behind his back and who went to lock himself alone on the Toulon defense.

The Red and Black were far too imprecise in their conquest with 5 touches lost in the first period. Difficulties which inevitably make the development of the game difficult and which explains the starving offensive stats of the Varois (only 2 crossings in the 1st period).

Le Garrec sanctioned Toulon

After these nightmarish 40 minutes, it’s hard to do worse. And after a failure each during the first act, Le Garrec then Serin each adjusted the sights to score the first points for their team (3-3, 50′).

Too penalized in its 22 meters despite a tough defense, the RCT found itself outnumbered for a second time after Lucchesi’s yellow card (57′). Racing and Le Garrec with a second penalty took the opportunity to regain the advantage in the score. A numerical inferiority which did not, however, prevent Toulon from recovering a penalty at 7 against 8 on a scrum to once again return to equality.

An effort that ultimately was for nothing. Too undisciplined, the RCT will offer 3 consecutive penalties to Nolann Le Garrec then will finally break down and concede the only try of the match on a maul concluded by Tarrit (76′). For the first time this season, Racing has a second victory and leaves Toulon with the questions of a very sad performance.
