RECANATI – Svethia Recanati returns to success, redeeming the defeat of Senigallia and defeating the resistance of a tough Valdiceppo 75-65 in front of over 700 fans. Gialloblu are once again first on their own thanks to four victories out of five races played. The Leopardi team made a very fast start and found themselves at 11-0 thanks to triples from Andreani, Pozzetti and Urbutis. Valdiceppo is holding their breath, the first point comes with the clock stopped by Mozzi but it’s still a Svethia show with five consecutive points all scored by Magrini before Speziali’s bomb.
The quarter ends 20-4, Svethia is the absolute master of the match and the music doesn’t change even in the second ten minutes: good impact from Clementoni from the bench, Provvidenza tries to patch things up but it’s still Magrini and Urbutis who make the Umbrians sink at 28-9. Coach Fillippetti’s time out is of little use because it is always the Urbutis-Pozzetti-Magrini trio who find their way to the basket with continuity until the half-way point of 35-17. The long break gives oxygen to the guests who return to the pitch with the aim of reopening it: Mozzi and Rath increase the engine speed, Gonzalez responds to Urbutis’ triple and Valdiceppo at -12 (38-26). Gonzalez again, Provvidenza’s heavy conclusion and Mozzi’s counterattack for -9 (40-33) which rekindles Sicoma’s hopes.
Recanati does not get upset, with patience and as an expert team they put their ideas together: Pozzetti is very hot from the arc, Magrini a decision from the line and Svethia again -14 (49-35). Pozzetti unstoppable, triple by Sabbatini and Gialloblu flying to +19 (55-36) before Bonucci’s bomb that closes the quarter (55-39). Last ten turns of the clock and guests playing for everything: Meschini tries to take his team’s hand but it is still Pozzetti who makes the palas vibrate (63-46). The Meschini-Bonucci duo again for -12 Valdiceppo (63-51), Pozzetti makes three out of three with the clock stopped, Andreani scores a stunning triple and Svethia at +17 (69-52).
It seems like the decisive push but there is time for the last Umbrian gasp: partial score of 7-0 Sicoma 2’45” from the siren. Urbutis with talent and experience puts things back in order, Magrini sets the final score at 75-65 and for Recanati it is the solitary summit after five days. On Saturday, a treacherous away match in Roseto against a team in great form capable of beating the Loreto Pesaro pitch.
