Red Shield Assam Badminton Tournament Concludes with Grand Closing Ceremony in Tinsukia

The Second edition of Red Shield Assam Badminton Tournament came to a successful conclusion with a grand closing ceremony held on 21 October at Hijuguri Stadium, Tinsukia, Upper Assam. The ceremony included a number of enthralling cultural and martial performances that ended with majestic band display.

The tournament witnessed remarkable performances from young athletes, with Noimikha Saikia securing first position in Under 15 Girls Category and Hrishikesh Gogoi in Under 15 Boys Category. In Under 19 Girls category Avikaa Borgohain and in Under 19 Boys Category,Produnya Bhuyan emerged as the winners.
Winners in each category received a cash prize of ₹50,000/- and the runners up were awarded ₹25000/-

The Chief Guest on the occasion was Major General Sameer Sharan Kartikeya, Sena Medal, General Officer Commanding, Red Shield Division.

During his address to the enthusiastic participants and other spectators, he expressed his happiness over the immense success of the tournament. He highlighted the role of the Indian Army in conducting various welfare and sports activities, reaffirming Indian Army’s commitment in fostering development and aiding empowerment in Upper Assam, apart from maintaining peace and security.The General Officer also mentioned about the upcoming Capt Jintu Gogoi Football tournament which will be held in January 2025 and provide a platform to the tremendous football talent in the region.

The General Officer extended his gratitude to the Assam Badminton Association, Tinsukia Railway Division, Tinsukia District Sports Association, and Tinsukia Development Authority for their invaluable support and cooperation in making this tournament a grand success.

The Red Shield Badminton Tournament has once again proven to be a beacon for nurturing local talent, promoting fitness, and fostering the spirit of sportsmanship in Assam’s youth. This tournament is a testimony to Indian Army’s commitment towards empowerment and providing opportunities to the people of the region.
