Bruyneel drops bomb

And then there were also the recurring rumors about a transfer, more specifically to Red Bull-Bora Hansgrohe. A few months ago, experts such as Daniel Benson and Ciro Scognamiglio already said that a deal was in the air. In the end it didn’t happen, Evenepoel suggested he stay with Quick-Step.

But Johan Bruyneel tells us in The Move that a transfer was very close. “It’s not confirmed, but I heard that it was actually ‘done’ between Evenepoel and Red Bull-Bora Hansgrohe.” The transfer would therefore have been as good as completed.

“Personalized clothing had even been made with Evenepoel’s name on it,” Bruyneel continues. “The plug was pulled at the last minute, I don’t know why that happened. It is possible that one of the parties has changed their mind after all.”

Unclear communication

A new controversial episode in the saga between Evenepoel and Red Bull-Bora Hansgrohe. As mentioned, the rider has indicated that he will stay with Soudal Quick-Step. But it remains to be seen whether he will complete his full contract, which runs until 2026.

Because Evenepoel never literally said that, Bruyneel also knows. “He would have said better: ‘I am going to honor my contract’. So I don’t know whether he has decided to stay for one more season and then move to Red Bull next year.” Time will tell.
