The Italian Sinner received a record $6 million for winning the Six Kings Slam exhibition event and needed to play only three straight matches to do so.

The money earned at the tournament in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, far exceeded those earned by Sinner from triumphs at the Grand Slams – whether it was the Australian Open ($3 million) or the US Open ($3.6 million).

The 23-year-old number one spoke to Eurosport for the first time about the historic prize, saying: “It’s very simple, I don’t play for money.”

In an interview, Sinner stated that he went to Riyadh because there were six of the best tennis players in the world. “I could compete with them. It was a nice event,” said the Italian.

He admitted that he was in Riyadh for the first time in his life. “It was very nice and especially when you come back as a winner. It was more about playing matches successfully. I hope it will help me improve in the future, that’s all,” he responded in the interview.

Finally, however, he returned to the topic of a record lucrative reward. “Of course, money is important, but not so much. I live a good life without them. It is much more important to be healthy, to be surrounded by great people and to have your family. The money is just something extra,” added Sinner.

Shortly after his statements, Switzerland’s Stan Wawrinka responded to the video of the interview in a simple way on the X social network. He posted an emoticon showing a smiling face with tears of joy as a sarcastic response to Sinner’s words.
