The American magazine Forbes unveiled its traditional ranking of the highest paid footballers in 2024 on Thursday. Two French people are in the top 10.
Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Neymar, trifecta. In 2017, it was the Ballon d’Or podium. The order is the same in 2024, but this time on the podium of the ranking Forbes of the highest paid footballers in the world. The American magazine published this Thursday its traditional estimates of players’ income, with salaries, bonuses and sponsorship contracts. And as in 2023, it is the Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo who comes first with 285 million dollars collected, ahead of his eternal rival Lionel Messi (135 million) and the Brazilian Neymar (110 million).
All three are now thriving far from Europe. Messi stacks up the goals for Inter Miami, David Beckham’s American franchise in MLS. «CR7» left Manchester United at the start of 2023 to join Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia, where he plays alongside Sadio Mané, the former Liverpool player, 9th in the ranking (52 million).
Haaland, De Bruyne and Salah in the top 10
The Riyadh-based team is ranked third in the Saudi Pro League, the Saudi championship, dominated by the capital’s other club, Al-Hilal, which has a certain… Neymar in its ranks. The former PSG star, troubled by injuries, only played five small matches in a year and a half. In second place in the championship is Al-Ittihad, Karim Benzema’s club. With 104 million euros collected this year, the 2022 Ballon d’Or is solid 4th in the ranking.
The French striker is ahead of his compatriot Kylian Mbappé, 5th with revenues estimated at $90 million over the year. After the two Frenchmen, we find the Norwegian Erling Haaland ($60 million), the Brazilian Vinicius Junior, teammate of Kylian Mbappé at Real Madrid ($55 million), the Egyptian Mohamed Salah ($53 million) and the Belgian Kevin De Bruyne ($39 million).
