Ryan Flamingo looks back: “FC Utrecht didn’t want me…

Ryan Flamingo impressed at FC Utrecht last season and earned a transfer to PSV in the Domstad. The defender is happy with his switch to the current national champions.

“That is why I took the step to PSV. I want to develop further in top football. Continue to grow. Play at the top level more often. PSV came at the right time last summer,” says Flamingo in ELF Magazine. The current PSV player was already in the interest of his current employer last winter. “But FC Utrecht didn’t want to let me go.”

“They had hired me from Sassuolo for a year and did not want to terminate that agreement,” the defender continues. “Their right, of course. I probably wouldn’t do that as a club director either. I resigned myself to it and did everything I could until the end of the season to achieve good results with FC Utrecht.”

Flamingo is very happy that the people of Eindhoven wanted to do business again this summer to acquire him. “As a little boy I wanted to play football for PSV. I was happy that they came back. In consultation with my agents Humphry Nijman and Robin Nijman, I decided that a top club in the Netherlands would be the best next step.”

“Young players get a chance here more quickly than, for example, in Italy. The national coaches of the Dutch national team look around the Eredivisie more quickly than at a club in the right-hand row of Serie A or Serie B. Moreover, I enjoyed living in the Netherlands with family and friends close by,” says Flamingo.
