Iga Swiatek continues to dominate world tennis, according to the WTA ranking published on Monday, but with the Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka one step away from completing her unstoppable rise and taking number one from the Pole.
Sabalenka, who won the WTA 1000 tournament in Wuhan on Sunday for the third time in her career, was only 69 points behind Swiatek, who announced ten days ago that she was separating from her coach Tomasz Wiktorowski.
Another movement at the top of the WTA count was the rise of the American Coco Gauff, who regained third place to the detriment of her compatriot Jessica Pegula.
Defeated in the semifinals in Wuhan by Sabalenka in a match in which she committed 21 double faults, Gauff nevertheless took advantage of Pegula’s elimination in the round of 16 to surpass her in the standings.
Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia, who was also eliminated in the round of 16 in the tournament in China, rose two places to tenth position, recovering the best ranking of her career.
While the Spanish Paula Badosa rose to fourteenth position, confirming her recovery.
