Sainz Secures First Pole of the Season While Perez Struggles in 18th at Home Grand Prix

Carlos Sainz took the pole position with the fastest lap in the qualifying rounds held at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez.

Max Verstappen took second place, while Lando Norris took third place.

The Mexican Grand Prix will take place on Sunday at 23:00 Türkiye time.

Q1 – Q1: Perez eliminated at home, Norris top

The second session, qualifying on Saturday, started with the 17-minute Q1 session.

When the green light turned on, Esteban Ocon was the first pilot to take to the track without wasting any time.

After the first laps, the name that took the top spot was Max Verstappen with 1:16.998.

At the halfway point of the first episode, Red Bull driver Sergio Perez stated over the radio that he was having difficulty braking at low speed.

As the track got faster, the pilots started to improve their laps, and at the end of the first episode, the fastest lap was Lando Norris with 1:16.505.

Carlos Sainz ranked second, 0.273 behind, while Max Verstappen ranked third, 0.298 behind.

Mexican pilot Sergio Perez threw in the towel in the first part of his home race.

The eliminated names were Franco Colapinto, Oscar Piastri, Sergio Perez, Esteban Ocon and Guanyu Zhou, respectively.

Q2 – Part Two: Tsunoda crashes, Norris on top

When the second episode started, Williams driver Alex Albon opened the car.

When the pilots slowly took to the track and took their first laps, the fastest name was Max Verstappen with 1:16.629.

Charles Leclerc’s lap of 1:17.631 was deleted due to track limits.

After the Mercedes pilots in the garage and Lando Norris took to the track, the top spot went to Norris, who completed a lap of 1:16.301.

10 seconds before the end of the second segment, Yuki Tsunoda crashed into the barriers at turn 12 and bid farewell to the session, causing red flags.

So Q2 ended and Lando Norris retained his lead.

Max Verstappen was second, 0.213 seconds behind, while Carlos Sainz was third, 0.214 seconds behind.

The names that could not qualify for the third section were RB pilots, Aston Martin pilots and Valtteri Bottas, respectively.

Q3 – Part Three:

In the last 12-minute episode, the pilots took to the track without wasting any time after the red flag.

The pilot who took the first place with the fastest lap was Carlos Sainz with 1:16.055. Second place Max Verstappen’s lap of 1:16.368 was deleted due to track limits.

Lewis Hamilton stated that the car felt quite different compared to the third practice session.

In the last minutes, which will determine the lineup of the top 10 pilots on the grid, the pilots took to the track again.

Carlos Sainz achieved his first pole position this season with 1:15.946, while Max Verstappen ranked second, 0.225 seconds behind. Lando Norris finished third.
