SC Itzehoe: Exciting badminton duels against Glücksburg

In a game at eye level, the first team from Sportclub Itzehoe narrowly lost 3:5 to relegated TSV Glücksburg 09 II.

On the Störstädter side, the first men’s doubles, Schuldt/Beyer and Sina Lindemann in the women’s singles, impressed with strong two-set victories.

The women’s doubles, however, surprisingly went to the guests from the far north and the second men’s doubles from Itzehoer also lost in three hard-fought sets.

The preliminary decision in favor of Glücksburg was made in the following men’s singles.

Paul Schuldt was narrowly behind in both sets in the top singles with 18:21 and 19:21. Things got particularly dramatic in the second men’s singles. Here Ole Beyer played well after some initial difficulties, won the second set 21:9 and initially controlled the action in the deciding set. But in a spectacular finish, Tim Schmidt from Glücksburg fended off two match points and won 22:20 in overtime.

Since the mixed doubles was also a sure win for the guests, SCI captain Dirk Kaack’s narrow victory in the third men’s singles was only enough to correct the result to 3:5.

The second representation of the SCI achieved a real breakthrough with a surprisingly clear 8:0 against BSV Bad Bramstedt.

The Störstädters managed a perfect game against the newcomers from the South-West region, even if the course of individual games was more competitive than the overall result suggests. Heiko Schulz, among others, won the third men’s singles with a strong nerve with 22:20 in the deciding set and the first men’s doubles was only able to break away from his opponents decisively in the third round.

With the clear home win, the Steinburgers left the bottom of the Landesliga Süd table and were then able to get over the fact that they weren’t able to gain another point the following morning in Stockelsdorf. The Itzehoer lost 2:6 to the reigning runner-up SG Stockelsdorf/ Schwartau. The two points for the SCI were earned by Stefan Mantey and Heiko Schulz in the second men’s doubles and Marina Schoof in an exciting women’s singles.

In the coming weeks, the Itzehoer state league teams will now have no games to play before on November 16th. The second and third teams from SG Hammer/Altenholz/Molfsee are guests in Wellenkamp for the next double home game day.
