THE MATCH
First victory in the championship for Monza who beat Bentegodi 3-0 in the postponement of the eighth matchday. The score was severe for Verona who paid dearly for the many defensive errors. Alessandro Nesta thus celebrates his first victory as a coach in the top flight, the Brianza team climbs the rankings leaving the last place in the ranking while Hellas does not follow up on their success against Venezia and collects their fifth defeat of the season. Zanetti persists with the two-pronged experiment that was popular in the match with the lagoon players: Mosquera is the battering ram, the Dane Tengstedt circles him. Gialloblù offensive with Lazovic and Suslov the two wingers in midfield. In Monza Turati returns to defend the goal with Pizzignacco going to the bench. Compared to the drawn match with Roma inside from the 1st minute Mota and Caprari who takes the place of the injured Maldini, fresh from the national team but struggling with a shoulder bruise suffered in finishing the match. The approach to the match belongs entirely to Monza who wins a couple of corners and finds the goal right at the start of the match. The guest’s maneuver was good, Caprari’s assist was excellent for Dany Mota who managed to keep the ball low with a right-foot volley which went into the opposite post where Montipò couldn’t reach. Monza plays well, with clean maneuvers.
But Verona, having suffered the blow, reorganized themselves, relying above all on inactive balls and the physicality of their players. Turati is good at repelling Ghilardi’s header from Duda’s corner and Hellas closes down Monza on their own frontcourt but is unable to take advantage of the good moment, Monza readjusts, the match loses its technical tone and becomes hostile. Nice flash from Tengstedt, author of a great play at the closing credits of the first half but his right-footed shot from a tight angle misses the target. At the start of the second half Verona started strong again, first with Lazovic and then with Magnani they scared Turati but the best opportunity came from Djuric who headed all alone thanks to his former teammate Montipò. The errors do not decrease at Verona and Monza comes close to doubling their lead with a great left-footed shot from distance by Kyriakopoulos that chips the crossbar. Zanetti proposes a triple change, with Sarr, Serdar and Kastanos thrown into the fray in place of the disappointing Duda, Suslov and Mosquera. Verona is more aggressive, Monza struggles to get out of their own half. Turati is called into action several times, first on Bradaric’s corner, then on Kastanos’ long shot and finally on Ghilardi’s header.
But in full apnea Monza found the 2-0 in the most classic action. Turati’s clearance, Djuric’s push, Verona’s defense stops and Mota slips between the central defenders and passes Montipò with a right winger and freezes Bentegodi. Which turns to ice a few minutes later with a photocopy action. Djuric again spitting out a long clearance from Turati, this time the defense is ahead but Faraoni messes up, touches short towards Montipò and Bianco scores his first goal in Serie A and the hat-trick for Monza.
