Shocking video of the fatal fall of a parachutist in a strange accident

The Boituva Civil Policemunicipality of the Brazilian state of São Pauloinvestigates the death of Carolina Muñoz Kennedya 40-year-old professional skydiver who died last Saturday, October 26, during one of her jumps.

According to the Brazilian channel ‘TV TEM’, “Carolina Muñoz Kennedy, known as Carito, suffered a fall around 5:40 p.m., on Alzira Agostinho Atalla Street, in Vila dos Ipês. “She was rescued, but did not survive her injuries.”

Carito was Chilean and had lived in Brazil for more than five years, specifically in Boituva, where she worked as a chiropractor and physiotherapist. She was a professional skydiver since 2013 and, as such, was registered in the Brazilian Parachuting Confederation (CBPq).

«This Saturday the athlete jumped several times. In the last jump there was a breakdown in the main parachute, and the reserve one opened with a problem called ‘spin‘, which makes the flight difficult, since the ropes twist. As a result, the athlete could not sustain the flight and had difficulties landing,” ‘TV TEM’ noted.

The Civil Police reported that Carolina’s equipment was seized and will be subjected to relevant forensic analysis.

In a statement, the CBPq regretted what happened and reported that “the athlete used high performance equipment at the time of the accident, but the main parachute had problems and an emergency procedure had to be carried out. The CBPq added that a Technical Commission will prepare a report to clarify the causes of the accident.

«In this difficult time, our thoughts are with our beloved athlete, her family and the entire skydiving community. We reiterate our commitment to safety and integrity of all those involved in our sporting activity,” added the CBPq.

Patricio Chandia, president of the Chilean Parachuting Federation (Parafech), offered details about the incident through ‘Las Últimas Noticias’. Chandía commented that he had been in contact with Wellington Mendespresident of the CBPq. No accident of this type had been recorded in Brazil for more than a decade, which adds strangeness and concern to the event.
