DUNAJSKÁ STREDA – Martin Škrtel became the sports director of Dunajská Streda last month.
However, the Slovak representative did not stay in this role for long, as according to the official website of the first league team, Škrtel is leaving the club at his own request.
“By mutual agreement, today we end our cooperation with the club’s sporting director Martin Škrtel. The former national team defender is leaving our club at his own request, for personal reasons. We thank Martin for his work for the benefit of our club and wish him much success in the future.” it is stated in the club’s statement.
The former successful defender led Slovakia as a captain in the first European Championship in 2016. The “Falcons” advanced to the round of 16 in this tournament, which is their highest so far at the top event. The former stopper was also at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, which is still the only world championship in which Slovaks started. He ended his international career in October 2019 and with 104 duels in the national jersey, he is in fifth place in the historical charts.
