BRATISLAVA – Slovan Bratislava signed a contract with the talented midfielder Maxim Mateáš.

Only 16-year-old player signed his first professional contract with a duration of two years. He made his debut in the Nike League at the end of last season and became the fifth youngest player in the history of the highest Slovak competition, Slovan’s club website recalled.

Mateáš is a member of the SK Slovan Academy and made his league debut in the last round of the 2023/24 season with Ružomberok when he was only 16 years and six days old.

“I am experiencing very good feelings, because I signed a contract with Slovan, my first club, the one I like the most and in which I grew up. I am looking forward to continue being in Belas.” stated Mateáš, who this year attends meetings mainly for the second division junior team and plays with the older youth in the UEFA Youth League.

He completed the entire summer training with the A-team and jumped into the rematch of the first qualifying round of the Champions League with Struga, starting from the start in the league match in Banská Bystrica.

“On the example of several players, I can see that it is possible to get from the academy to the first team. I realize that hard work and a lot of strength lead to this goal, but I am looking forward to what awaits me.

Excellent motivation and inspiration were the training sessions and starts in the first team, where I see experienced and high-quality teammates. I feel best in the position of ten, but I can play anywhere in the middle with more offensive roles.”

It is a promise for the future

General director of the club Ivan Kmotrík Jr. on signing the contract with Mateáš, he said: “We see great potential and promise for the future in Maxim. We are happy that he too sees his next steps in white, where he can follow in the footsteps of Nino Marcelli or David Strelec, who became a permanent part of the first team after going through the Academy.

It was very important for us to contract our next pupil. Now it’s only in his hands how he will develop his potential and improve.”
