Sensational success for the Gammertingen U16 softball players: At the German Championships last weekend in Karlsruhe, the Gammertingen Royals baseball players won a German championship title on the field for the first time. After an outstanding performance in the final against the Berlin Ravens, the title went to the “softball province” of the Swabian Alb. The Royals U16 girls crowned an incredible season for the entire club.
Victory and defeat at the start
The team and fans traveled to Karlsruhe on Friday. The warm-up for the first game against the Main-Taunus-Redwings began at 8 a.m. on Saturday. The game ended up being a clear affair. With a clear 12-2 win, the young women of the Royals were able to clearly win the game.
This was immediately followed by the game against the defending champions, the Freising Grizzlies. No team was able to pull away for a long time in the game. Ultimately, the extension had to bring the decision. And in this one the Grizzlies had luck on their side. The Royals lost this high-class encounter 7:8.
Royals need victory
The starting position was therefore clear before the last preliminary round game: only with a win could the Royals still have a chance of reaching the semi-finals they were aiming for before the tournament. And: The hopes of the U16 girls from Gammertingen were fulfilled. The Gammertingers defeated the Paderborn Untouchables 9:5. This meant that the Royals qualified for the semi-finals as the best runner-up in the group.
In this, the Royals met the syndicate of the two Bundesliga clubs Karlsruhe and Stuttgart. Despite the rather mixed performance of the team from the Swabian Alb, the Gammertingen team also prevailed in this game with 11:7.
Concentrated performance in the final
This meant that the Royals were in the final of a German championship for the first time. With a concentrated performance in both defense and offense, the Gammertingen women were able to compete right at the start of the game against the Berlin Ravens
Take a 2-0 lead. The Royals youngsters continuously expanded this lead, so that in the end they achieved a clear 9-0 win.
This ends an incredibly successful season for the Royals’ softball players: German champion in women’s indoor baseball, Baden-Württemberg champion in the U16, association league champion in the women’s class and German champion in the U16.
