The Italian Jannik Sinner is still suspected of doping, but the South Tyrolean is unimpressed by the investigation on the tennis court.
Still champion. The world number one Jannik Sinner beat Novak Djokovic in just two sets to win the Shanghai Masters on Sunday.
The 23-year-old Italian from South Tyrol beat the 24-time Grand Slam champion 7:6 (4), 6:3. Sinner scored eight aces, while Djokovic only scored four.
For Sinner it was the 17th title of his career and the seventh in 2024.
Djokovic, now 37, is aiming for his 100th tour title. Only Jimmy Connors with 109 titles and Roger Federer with 103 titles have reached the hundred mark in men’s tennis.
Sinner: “Nole is a sports legend”
“Nole is a legend of the sport and it is always difficult to play against him. He has no weaknesses, you just have to be able to take advantage of the few chances he gives you throughout the match. And in the In other phases of the game you just have to try to believe in yourself. I’m just happy with this win“, commented Sinner in Shanghai.
Italian wins despite doping stress
After a positive doping test last March, the World Anti-Doping Agency is continuing to investigate Jannik Sinner. The authorities do not consider the South Tyrolean’s statements that he came into contact with the steroids through medication in his environment to be credible and are threatening the tennis professional with a ban of one to two years.
But Jannik Sinner remains cool on the tennis court and doesn’t let himself be disturbed despite the allegations.
