The Minister of Sports, Gil Avérous, indicated that credits for high-level sport will be stabilized in 2025 compared to the year 2024.
Credits for high-level sport will be “stabilized” at the same level as in 2024, the Olympic year, said Tuesday the Minister of Sports and Youth, Gil Avérous, during a hearing at the National Assembly. “Funding dedicated to the National Sports Agency (armed arm of the State in terms of sports policy, Editor’s note) will be stabilized at 108 million euros (for the high level), as in 2024, in order to sustainably anchor France in the Top 5 of Olympic nations”he said when asked about the reduction in funds dedicated to sport in the 2025 budget.
“Parliamentary negotiation will have to provide credits for 2030 which do not appear in the Finance bill”, he added, with his eyes fixed on the 2030 Winter Olympics which are to be held in the French Alps. Heard by the Cultural Affairs and Education Committee, he agreed to an increase in the contribution of the tax on sports betting to his budget supported by deputies but clarified that the decision had not yet been made.
Youth law
An amendment on this subject has been tabled but has not yet been discussed in public session. Despite the drop in overall credits allocated to his ministry, the mayor of Châteauroux assured “have full means to preserve public policies” et “to maintain the objectives in place which were already ambitious objectives”.
He also indicated that he wanted “simplify” the procedures for granting subsidies for sports equipment, and suggested “relocate” and of “unload” the ANS of this part so that it can concentrate “on performance, on the development of sport and clubs, and support for clubs in management”. Asked about the prospect of a Legacy of the Paris 2024 Games law, a project announced by Amélie Oudéa-Castéra, who preceded him at the head of his ministry, he spoke out, without further details, in favor of ‘a “youth law with sport at the heart” based on “proposals coming from the field”.
In a report on sports credits, of which AFP had a copy, MP Joël Bruneau (LIOT) was moved on a level “which raises questions regarding the expected legacy of the Olympic and Paralympic Games and the ambition to make France a true sporting nation”. The amendments could not be examined in committee, they will be on Wednesday morning.
