SPOTV, which broadcasts popular sports such as PL, MLB, and NBA, announced on the 30th that it will hold an innovative badminton competition in a new format, ‘BDMNTN-XL 2024’, in Jakarta, Indonesia.
At this competition, you can meet Olympic medalists such as Korea’s Lee Yong-dae and Seo Seung-jae, as well as two-time Olympic men’s singles champions Viktor Axelsen (Danmek), Hendra Setiawan, and Gracia Foley.
BDMNTN-XL, which is conducted in a new way with a total of 28 players divided into 4 teams, will have a 3-day preliminary round starting Thursday the 31st, and then the top two teams will play the finals on November 3rd. All BDMNTN-XL 2024 matches, which will provide new fun to badminton fans, will be broadcast live on TV channel SPOTV2 and sports OTT service SPOTV NOW.
BDMNTN-XL is a team of 7 people, 4 men and 3 women. In addition, one game will be played 3-on-3 for men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, and women’s doubles, and will be played in a 10-minute time format per set rather than the 21-point 3-set format of existing badminton competitions.
The BDMNTN-XL competition rules first classify the teams into 4 teams with 7 people per team. Afterwards, it is divided into 5 events and 4 sets for each event (men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles, 3-on-3). A 3-on-3 match is worth 3 points. In addition, each team is assigned a 2-point event. The remaining two events are automatically allocated 1 point. The team with the highest set score wins the game, and the team with the highest total game score wins the game. After the preliminary round, the teams with 1st and 2nd place in points advance to the finals (if 2nd and 3rd places are tied in points, 2nd place is decided based on the winner-win principle).
In this tournament, you can meet Korean badminton icon Lee Yong-dae (Yonex) and Seo Seung-jae (Samsung Life Insurance), who also won the Badminton World Federation (BWF) 2023 Male Player of the Year Award. Domestic badminton fans are also interested in whether two players assigned to different teams will face off in this tournament.
