The state cups always offer lower-class teams an attractive opportunity to qualify for the DFB Cup. Some associations are already quite far along.
Phew, that just went well for him SV Sandhausen. In the Baden State Cup, the third division team had to play against Regionalliga Southwest representative Astoria Walldorf – an unpleasant draw.
It quickly became apparent that this wasn’t just the case on paper. Only a few kilometers separate the two clubs on the map and there weren’t many differences on the pitch either. Sebastian Stolze made the first notable one when he scored to give the favorites the lead in the 76th minute.
But Walldorf didn’t give up, on the contrary. Jonas Arcalean took responsibility in the 85th minute, took the penalty and equalized from the spot. Just when everything looked like extra time, Emmanuel Iwe came on.
The American only joined the Sandhäuser in the summer and redeemed the favorites in the second minute of added time. Thanks to the 2-1 win, SV Sandhausen can actually call themselves cup semi-finalists in mid-October.
All quarter-finals in the Baden State Cup have already been played. The Turkish SV Pforzheim (1-0 against DJK-FC Ziegelhausen/Peterstal) and 1. FC Bruchsal (3-0 against SpVgg Durlach-Aue) also prevailed. The fourth in the league is VfR Gommersdorf – a state league team. He recently caused the mega surprise.
Because Gommersdorf threw third division team Waldhof Mannheim out of the cup at the beginning of September. SV Waldhof Mannheim was the better team against the national league team from the start, but didn’t know how to take advantage of its chances. Completely different was VfR Gommersdorf, who surprisingly took the lead in the person of Jan Reuther after just under an hour with a fantastic finish into the corner.
The Mannheim team also had promising opportunities, but without success. Kelvin Arase put the ball in the goal in stoppage time, but the goal was disallowed due to an offside situation.
