Around 80 athletes didn’t miss the opportunity.

Around 80 participants were recorded at the VSS/Raiffeisen Youth Cup final in Mals; the host club, ASV Mals, was particularly well represented with over 50 players. The players from SC Meran, SSV Brixen and ASV Überetsch were also present in large numbers. The children played in the U9 and U11 categories in the middle school gym. The young people played in the U13 Mixed, U13+ and U19 Mixed categories in the high school gymnasium.

The ASV Mals players were the most successful. Here Hanna Niedermair (U9), Natalie Grittle (U11), Lea Grittle (U13+), Mattia Ceol (U11) and Daniel Moriggl (U13+) won gold. Jonas Jashari (U9) won the gold medal for ASV Überetsch, Emma Schitterle (U13 Mixed) for SSV Brixen and David Bauer (U19 Mixed) for SC Meran.

“The focus of the VSS/Raiffeisen Badminton Youth Cup should not be on winning. Rather, we want to give the children a feeling of community through sport,” explains Norbert Spornberger, VSS badminton consultant. In order to reward all the children for their hard work and commitment, there was the traditional raffle at the end of the day, so all the children left the gym with beaming eyes.

Next Saturday, November 2nd, the VSS/Raiffeisen Badminton State Championship for U9 and U11 will take place in the Max-Valier gymnasium in Bolzano.
