No, he is not a striker with a nose for goal. Ralph Vos is a goalkeeper, but can kick a nice ball. The 28-year-old goalkeeper from OJC Rosmalen scored beautifully on Wednesday evening in the TOTO KNVB Cup match with VV Eemdijk. “He was quite comfortable in it.”
The residents of Rosmalen had a difficult evening visiting the municipality of Bunschoten. It only became exciting in extra time, when goalkeeper Vos made it 2-1. He describes the moment: “We got a free kick and I went forward. When I saw that I could not win the duel with my opponent, I tried to choose a position where the ball would approximately land. However, I slipped, so I was already on the ground. The ball then came to me, so I decided to just shoot. He flew in nicely, yes.”

The goal of the goalkeeper, who lives in Berghem, went next viral. “When the match was over, I expected the goal to appear here and there on the internet. A goalkeeper who scores is quite special and he was also quite comfortable. If you do that in the competition, you have to be happy if someone has filmed. But now it was on ESPN’s bridging program and many people saw the goal.”

His phone was ringing off the hook. “I’ve had a lot of messages. After the match I had difficulty falling asleep, but I often have that after late matches. Today I don’t have to work and it’s Dad’s Day, so I’ll have an extra cup of coffee.”
Trainer Willem Leushuis does not have to ask Ralph to be a striker, because he remains comfortable under the crossbar. “I scored once in youth, but never again. We do shoot with goalkeepers during training, but that’s it.”

What is extra special is that Ralph had actually already stopped as a goalkeeper for a season. The former goalkeeper of RKC Waalwijk, FC Den Bosch and TOP Oss then played for various amateur clubs, but after UDI’19 he decided to put away his goalkeeper gloves in 2023.
“It started to itch again.”
“We often played on Saturdays in the competition and that could not be combined with my work in a sports shop in Oss. I didn’t play goalkeeper for a year, but when OJC Rosmalen came knocking, I started to get the itch again. A beautiful club at a nice level, I wanted that again. Now that I am a father, I have quite a few days of leave, which I can now use on Saturdays if necessary.”
OJC Rosmalen has a thing for scoring goalkeepers. At the end of last season, the then goalkeeper Jeroen Keeris went forward in the competition match against TEC. He then nodded his team to a 1-1 draw. Ralph’s beauty did not provide a good result, OJC lost the cup match 2-1.
