India’s para-badminton star, Sukant Kadam, is gearing up for his promising campaign at the Japan Para-Badminton International 2024. As the tournament’s first seed, Kadam enters with high expectations, facing tough competition from players like Japan’s Koki Ogawa and Bangladesh’s Mohammad Ali Imam in the round-robin phase. This is a crucial stage where Sukant plans to assert dominance and push towards the knockout rounds.
Ranked World No. 1, Sukant has been rigorously training and is highly driven to showcase his top form. Ahead of the event, Kadam expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “I’ve worked hard and feel confident. My goal is to focus and play at peak performance throughout the tournament,” according to a press release.
All eyes are on Sukant to see if he can uphold his leading status and clinch the title in Japan. Recently, he secured a silver medal at the Indonesia Para-Badminton International 2024, demonstrating impressive skill. Despite a tough final against Indonesia’s Fredy Setiawan in Men’s Singles SL4, which ended 21-14, 21-14, Kadam fought valiantly but succumbed to the local favorite.
Kadam’s performance in Indonesia reinforces his position among the world’s elite para-badminton players. India’s para-shuttlers triumphed with five medals at the recent Paris Paralympics. However, Kadam narrowly missed a bronze, going down to Indonesia’s Setiawan 17-21, 18-21 in a closely contested match.
