“An incredible moment”: Bronny James scores his first NBA points

In the NBA game between the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Los Angeles Lakers, 20,000 fans demand that Bronny James, son of superstar LeBron James, be substituted. The Lakers lose, but can celebrate Bronny’s first points. The dad praises his son effusively.

It’s another fairy tale that only sport can write. Bronny James, son of basketball legend LeBron James, scored his first points in the NBA for the Los Angeles Lakers – in his hometown of Cleveland. Father James was almost bursting with pride. “Seeing him score his first NBA goal in the arena he grew up not far from is an incredible moment,” he said after the game. “It’s an incredible moment for him and for our family.”

In the game against the Cleveland Cavaliers, Bronny came onto the field in the final quarter to the cheers of the crowd. Fans probably remembered him watching Cavaliers games with his father on the floor as a child. “He was better than I would have been in that situation. 20,000 fans screaming your name and wanting you to be in the game. I don’t know if I could have handled that,” LeBron James said afterwards.

A good two minutes before the end, Bronny scored from around ten meters from the left wing and scored his first NBA points. Dad LeBron, who scored 26 points, watched the moment from the bench. Bronny hadn’t played since coming off the bench alongside his superstar father in the Lakers’ season-opening win over the Minnesota Timberwolves. This was the first time in the history of the NBA that father and son were on the court together.

But they couldn’t prevent bankruptcy against Cleveland. In the end, the Lakers lost 110:134.
