Monclova, Coah.- After a very short preparation due to the recovery of a gallbladder surgery, Dafne Quintero, bronze winner in the Archery World Cup Final held last weekend in Tlaxcala, said in an interview for Monclova Zócalo, that the support of his family, coach and psychologist were fundamental to being able to achieve the goal of getting on the podium.

The number eight in the world in the Women’s Compound Archery, He assured that after a 2023 of great personal achievements, in 2024 he prepared throughout the year to be able to improve despite the setbacks.

“Well, the truth is that this year was a roller coaster, because in 2023 they were the Pan American and Central American Gamesthe World Cup and I came from many achievements, but obviously one wants to surpass those results, but this year they were not as I expected, because apart from that we are not going to the Olympic Games because I practice the compound bow modality, so I took that time to perform an operation on me; They removed my gallbladder and I spent several months without training, it was a very big task together with my coach, my psychologist and my parents, because it was to be ready in a month and a half, not just anyone, I feel like I had to put in a lot more effort, because I felt like I had to start from scratch,”

said the goalkeeper from Monclova.

Quintero also invited young people to practice sports, whether it be archery or any other discipline, since if you put dedication into it you can go very far.

“Practice sports, it may surprise you, maybe not archery, but try to see what you like the most, always do it with a lot of dedication, everything you put all your effort into can go very far, I “Right now I would not have imagined that I would be one of the best in the world or that I would travel all over the world, it is the most beautiful thing about this sport, that I discovered another facet of Dafne that I would never have imagined would come,”

he assured.

The goalkeeper from Monclova recognized the support received from the elected mayor of Monclova, Carlos Villarrealwho was accompanying her in the World Cup Final, and who also managed a tournament of the aforementioned discipline for the “Steel Capital” next year.

“Yes, he has been a very important support, I know that good things are coming for Monclova, he was in Tlaxcala supporting us because he wanted to know more about this sport, to know why Coahuila, Monclova have been a fundamental part of archery.”

Dafne mentioned the importance of mental health, and how it has helped her get ahead, not only during her competitions.

“Always seek help, even if it is not a professional, it works for me to tell my parents or close friends, be selective with the people around you and yes, go to the psychologist,”

Discipline has paid off

For its part, Luis Eduardo García Garza, technical director of archery in Coahuila and coach of Dafne, recognized that the basis of the success of the Monclonese has been her discipline.

“It has been very gratifying, many years of work have been going on since 2021, it was when I think we started to work very hard, in 2022 was when she qualified for the World Cup Final, it was also when she won the absolute athlete award “This tells you about work from years ago, a lot of preparation, the truth is a lot of discipline, that’s what Dafne has,”

Upcoming competitions
