Swimming star McKeown leaves World Cup due to mental health

The five-time Olympic gold winner Kaylee McKeown quit swimming World Cup series in China to focus on his mental health.

The Australian star, who this year He retained his Olympic titles in the 100m and 200m backstroke in Parismade the decision after competing in the first stage in Shanghai on Friday.

“I want to thank World Aquatics (international swimming federation) for the opportunity to come and compete in the World Cups, “It’s been a lot of fun here in Shanghai,” he commented on Instagram.

“Putting my mental health first, I decided to shorten my experience. “As an athlete it is very important to listen to your heart and know when to say enough is enough,” he added.

McKeown was a dominant presence in last year’s World Cup series, winning the women’s title and breaking several world records.

After his achievements at the Paris 2024 Games, returned to compete at the short course championships in September in Australiawhile several of his colleagues chose to rest.

On that occasion He broke the world record in the 100 meter short course backstroke.

The World Cup series moves next weekend to South Korea and then Singapore.
