Tennis = 19-year-old Ishii advances to quarterfinals, Toray Panpashi OP | Reuters

23rd (Reuters) – The second round of the women’s tennis Toray Pan Pacific Open singles match was held at Tokyo’s Ariake Tennis Forest Park on the 23rd, with 19-year-old Sayaka Ishii advancing to the quarterfinals.

Ishii, who got his first victory on tour in the previous day’s match, faced Zeynep Sonmez (Turkey) and came from behind to win 4-6, 6-2, 6-3. In the last eight, she will face sixth seed Diana Sinijel from Russia.

Second seed Beatriz Adamaia (Brazil) withdrew midway through the first set due to a back injury. Eighth seed Leila Fernandez (Canada) advanced.

In doubles, Shuko Aoyama and Eri Hozumi made it through to the first round with a come-from-behind victory. Mayi Hondama and Moeka Uchijima lost in straight sets to the second-seeded pair. The match between Nao Hibi and Miyu Kato was suspended midway through and was postponed to the next day.
