For his entry into the Rolex Paris Masters where he has never shone in four appearances, Carlos Alcaraz dominated Nicolas Jarry (7-5, 6-1). For his part, Stefanos Tsitsipas was reassured by beating Alejandro Tabilo (6-3, 6-4).
It would be a lie to say that Carlos Alcaraz was under pressure this Tuesday evening for his first round of the Rolex Paris Masters against Nicolas Jarry. But in four appearances here in the French capital, the Spaniard has never done better than a quarter-final in 2022 with a retirement against Holger Rune. Understand here that the world No. 2 rather tiptoed despite a recent success on hard court in Beijing at the beginning of the month. Nevertheless, everything went well for Carlos Alcaraz who, for his entry into the running, enforced the hierarchy against the Chilean in two sets (7-5, 6-1) and 1h32 of play.
Facing the 37th in the world, the No. 2 seed did the job for his debut in this Rolex Paris Masters but was not very impressive either, like his six lost games. In the first set, the Spaniard quickly took the lead by breaking early in the game then continued until losing his faceoff while serving to win the first set at 5-3. Brought back to 5-5 by his opponent, the Murcian needed two balls to conclude. Fortunately for the winner of Indian Wells, Roland-Garros and Wimbledon this year, the rest was less lively for him and the world number 2 sealed the match very easily by twice taking his opponent’s service. In the round of 16, he will meet Ugo Humbert or Marcos Giron.
Mission accomplished for Tsitsipas
Stefanos Tsitsipas will also see the rest of the competition. At the end of the day, the Greek easily dismissed Alejandro Tabilo in two sets (6-3, 6-4) and 1h08 of play. Simple, effective, rather clean on his throws (59% success on serve, 75% points won on his first serve, 56% on his second), the 11th in the world did not want to hang around. In the first set, the No. 10 seed waited until the last moment before coming out of the woods to steal the Chilean’s serve and conclude with his throw in. In the second set, after a break on each side at the start of the set to return to 2-2, the Greek tightened the game at the best of times to take the lead. In the next round, he will meet Francisco Cerundolo, who defeated Andrey Rublev.
