Alcaraz lost the first set 6-7 to world No. 33 and 30th seed Tomas Machac of the Czech Republic, then lost the second set 5-7, losing in straight sets.
World No. 1 and top seed Yannik Sinner of Italy defeated Russia’s fifth seed Daniil Medvedev 6-1, 6-4. They will play against Mahatu in the semifinals.
