Tennis star Holger Rune is preparing for the lucrative Six Kings Slam in Saudi Arabia. There the Dane, who worked with Boris Becker in the spring, is looked after by an old companion. Rune announced the coaching comeback in a press release.
Lars Christensen is working again as Holger Rune’s trainer. “I’m happy to be working with Lars again. We’ve known each other for many years and have developed our very own tennis language together,” said the 21-year-old.
Last month they both got back together after a long break. Several training sessions took place in Denmark, which had a “very good” effect on Rune’s serve. In addition to Lars Christensen, Keneth Carlsen remains as the tennis professional’s coach.
Christensen was extremely pleased to be reunited with his protégé. “I’ve known Holger since he was a little boy with big dreams. Now I’m looking forward to working with him again and working hard to achieve the ambitious goals we both have in his name,” said the Dane: “Everyone knows Holger’s enormous potential and his commitment and passion are something completely unique.” It is “a privilege to work as his trainer.”
Boris Becker only coached Holger Rune for four months
Holger Rune has diligently changed his trainers over the past few years. Around two years ago he brought Serena Williams’ former coach Patrick Mouratoglou on board, and in 2023 Lars Christensen joined him, who then worked at his side as the sole coach in the autumn.
Then, quite surprisingly, German tennis icon Boris Becker took over a little later. After less than four months, the two suddenly ended their collaboration last February. “We started this partnership with the original goal of reaching the ATP Finals at the end of last year, but as it progressed I realized that for this to be successful, I would have to be available to Holger much more than I can “Due to professional and private obligations, I can’t give Holger what he needs,” Becker explains the reasons.
After Becker left, Mouratoglou initially returned, but at the end of July this constellation was history again. Since then, Keneth Carlsen has been the Dane’s main coach.
In addition to Holger Rune, superstars Novak Djokovic, Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz, Daniel Medvedev and Rafael Nadal will also be competing at the highly endowed and newly launched Six Kings Slam in Saudi Arabia (October 16-19).
