Teresa Cabello and Fernando Molina triumph in the Top National Badminton Master with three Medals

Baena‘s grassroots sport has had intense participation in several competitions this weekend, with outstanding performances in badminton and cycling, and a difficult day in handball. Below, we review the most important results.

Badminton: medals for Molina and Cabello in the Top Senior National Master

This past weekend, Ronda hosted the Top Senior National Badminton Master, where more than 140 players from all over Spain participated. Among them, the Baenenses Fernando Molina and Teresa Cabello shone with outstanding performances.

Teresa Cabello won the silver medal in the women’s doubles category, competing alongside María Isabel Sáez, from the Torres de Cotillas club. In addition, Cabello won bronze in women’s singles and mixed doubles, the latter modality together with Fernando Molina, who also achieved third place in men’s doubles together with Alberto Pascual, from Vitoria.

On the other hand, in the Rinconada Sub-13 and Sub-17 TTR, held in La Rinconada (Seville), Juanjo Lastres from Baen did not have his best day. In men’s doubles, he won two matches but failed to advance beyond the group stage. In singles, he fell in the round of 16.

Handball: hard day for CB Iponuba

The five teams of the Iponuba Handball Club have had a day full of challenges. The three women’s teams traveled to Palma del Río, where they faced the local ARS Palma del Río teams. Despite the fight, the juniors were defeated 18-14, the children’s team fell 19-15, and the cadets also lost with a score of 20-14.

Meanwhile, at the Juan Carlos I sports center in Baena, the men’s teams played their matches. The fry offered the first joy by beating Dafisa CBA 21-15. However, the cadets did not have the same luck and lost 27-36 against ARS Palma del Río.

Cycling: Elena Pavón shines in the first edition of Territorio Coloma

The town of Albelda de Iregua hosted this weekend the first edition of “Territorio Coloma”, a mountain bike marathon event organized by the Olympic medalist Carlos Coloma. Among the 200 registered, the participation of Elena Pavón from Baen stood out, who performed excellently in the long distance, completing the 90 kilometers with more than 2,000 meters of elevation gain. Pavón finished in 4th place overall, being the youngest woman to finish the long race, consolidating her promising future in mountain biking.

Swimming: Improvement of marks in the Provincial League

Baenense swimming also played a leading role in the first day of the Córdoba Provincial League, which was held at the Aira Sport pool. The CN Baena swimmers achieved important improvements in their personal bests. Among the most notable are Alejandra Santano in the 200 m freestyle and Isabel Ortiz in the 100 m freestyle.

In the men’s category, Francisco Javier Santano managed to beat his records in three styles: 50 m breaststroke, 100 m butterfly and 100 m freestyle, in addition to the 400 m freestyle. Jesús Rojano also showed a notable improvement in his times in the 200 m freestyle, 200 m backstroke and 100 m butterfly.
