Today the Municipal Sports Games begin in Madrid, considered lthe largest municipal sports competition in Europeaccording to the City Council. The event will feature the participation of more than 2,500 teams and 300 schoolswho will compete in 33 different sports disciplines.
The first competitions will correspond to the senior categoryr, with approximately 2,500 participating teams. Competitions for over 300 school centers They will begin on November 9. Throughout the season 2024-2025, The Games will take place in the 21 districts of Madrid.
Among the 21 individual modalities sports such as badminton, climbing, artistic gymnastics, judo, swimming, tennis and triathlon, while the 12 modalities teamwork covers disciplines such as basketball, handball, baseball, soccer and hockey.
One of the new features of this edition is the inclusion of the ‘Family sports’, which allows minors and adults to participate together in safe disciplines, such as orienteering and pickleball. This initiative seeks to promote sports habits in young people through joint practice with their families.
Games without violence
The Municipal Police will also be part of the organization of the Municipal Sports Games with the implementation of the plan ‘There are NO tickets for violence’, focused on sports soccer and soccer 7. This campaign establishes a protocol to protect children and adolescents from any type of violence, especially sexual violence, during activities and in municipal sports centers.
This plan has already been applied in previous editions in the districts of Fuencarral-El Pardo, San Blas-Canillejas and Villa de Vallecas, while in this edition the districts of Villaverde, Barajas, Usera and Vicálvaro.
