The Archers Riomois women’s team wins the European Archery Club Cup

The Archers Riomois women’s team retained their European Club Cup this Sunday in Bulgaria. On the men’s side, Stade Clermontois finished third.

The Archers Riomois and the European Club Cup are a little more than a passion. The Riom women’s team won a new title this Sunday on the shooting range of the Dunav Stadium in Ruse (Bulgaria) during a competition bringing together 29 teams from seven countries.

Riom, the defending women’s team, added one more line to a leading international record. With Lisa Barbelin, individual bronze medalist at the Paris Olympics, Aziliz Ramel and Siham Er’Rahmouni, the Auvergnates performed well.

It started in qualifying with a first place and a total of 1,913 points ahead of Nîmes and its 1,908 points. The Riomoises continued in the group matches where they recorded two victories over Brignais (France), Arco Pozuelo (Spain) and a draw against Ankaran (Slovenia).

Lisa Barbelin, Aziliz Ramel and Siham Er’Rahmouni continued their flawless performance in the semi-final against the Polish team from Lucznik (5-1). But in the final, it was much more complicated against Nîmes. Trailing (0-4) and almost with their backs to the wall, the Auvergnates reduced their delay and equalized (4-4). It came down to the shoot-off arrows in favor of Archers Riomois (5-4).

Archery: Romain Fichet from Rio was crowned French champion at home, Clermontois Thomas Chirault in bronze

“It’s the third European Cup in a row, the fourth in the club’s history,” says Julien Mégret, president of Archers Riomois. “We remain at the top, we are in the club project that we have been defending for years. years we are right and that legitimizes the fact of continuing.

Stade Clermontois in bronze for the men

A title therefore, but not the only medal for Auvergne in Bulgaria. In the men’s event, the match for third place even gave rise to a clash between the Archers Riomois of Romain Fichet, Maxence Jamot, Yanis Baudain and the Stade Clermontois with Thomas Chirault, team silver medalist in Paris, Romain Viale and Pierre-Laurent Cazes.

Behind Nîmes and Rennes, untouchable this weekend, the two Auvergne teams gave their best to get on the podium. And in this match for bronze, the Clermontois had the last word by winning (6-2).
