Ligue 2… for now

The multi-billionaire clan that owns LVMH and the Austrian energy drink brand, which already owns several football clubs, could very soon announce the takeover of the second club in the capital.

Enough to ultimately compete with Paris Saint-Germain’s big neighbor? Discussions are underway between Paris FC, the Arnault family (LVMH) and Red Bull for the possible takeover of the Parisian club, a source with knowledge of the matter said this Wednesday evening, October 9, confirming information from the newspaper The team. The Arnault family and Paris FC have not made any comment at this stage, but “a communication will be made by the Parisian club on Thursday”affirms The World.

The president of the PFC since 2012, businessman Pierre Ferracci (72), majority shareholder, has already expressed his wish to hand over the reins. He could only keep 30% of the capital, before leaving his position within three years. According to information from the evening daily, “the members of the Arnault family would invest on a personal basis, and not via LVMH – even if the luxury group could be required to sponsor the PFC –, in order to become a majority shareholder of the club”. Red Bull could enter “up to 15%”according to the same source.

The Arnaut family, whose illustrious patriarch is credited with a fortune today estimated at around 180 billion euros, recently invested in Formula 1. The Austrian brand of energy drinks, for its part, already owns several clubs , including that of Leipzig, which regularly plays the leading roles in Germany and the Champions League. The latter also announced on Wednesday the arrival of Jürgen Klopp, legendary former Liverpool coach, as Red Bull’s new global director for football.

After eight days, the capital’s second major club, which plays at the Charléty stadium, is at the top of Ligue 2, on the strength of quality recruitment in the off-season. Enough to imagine a Paris FC-Rennes match next year which would be the scene of a duel of French owners with plenty of money between Bernard Pinault and François-Henri Pinault.
