“The best atmosphere of the year” (Tennis)

“How do you feel at the end of the season?
I feel good. I’m always happy to be here. It’s always easy to finish the season in France with Bercy and Metz. I’m very happy to be here. The season was long. There is inevitably a little fatigue, but you still manage to find energy when you are in France with the support of the public.

Ben Shelton recently said that you were the best indoor player in the world…
(Smiles)
I hadn’t heard he said that. I learned to play indoors, on carpet. I played all my youth indoors. I think I have certainly developed qualities that allow me to play well on this surface and in these conditions. I have two shots that go very quickly from both sides with a left-handed serve where I manage to add a lot of variety too. These are conditions that I like. As soon as you are aggressive enough on these surfaces and you attack, defending becomes difficult… Especially here, I find that it goes very quickly. As soon as you accelerate a little, the ball flies. These are conditions that suit me well. Afterwards, I haven’t won this kind of tournament yet.

“Last year, when I played Zverev, it was probably the best experience I had on court. »

It’s a status that poses to you a man…
A single-digit ranking is great! You are one of the very best. But that’s just a ranking. That’s not what I’m going to take with me at the end of my career. What I will remember are the titles and the people who accompanied me on this adventure.

Arthur Son pushes hard. Is there a fight between you to finish French No. 1 at the end of the year?
There’s a good stuffing! It’s great to have Arthur who is there, both for me and French tennis. We pull ourselves up. I missed it when I arrived and was 25th, a little alone. We both recently trained in Basel, in every training session you felt that both of them wanted to win. We didn’t give up! And in a good state of mind, that’s what’s important. »
