“The best team of the last 30 years but to aim high we need corrections”

Returning with a clear mind to the indications and reflections provided by the match lost by Pallacanestro Trieste against Pallacanestro Reggiana, I like to express some of my considerations,

First things first fantastic to see Pala Rubini again like 5/6 years agoit seems that time has stopped, I don’t know where our team will arrive this season or one of the next, but certainly the warmth of the public, the fans of the Curva Nord and the atmosphere that can be felt inside the building are all height of European competitions (without saying which ones…)

The team was built to do well and to remain at the top of the tablethis can be seen from the words of Mike Arcieri and above all of Jamion Christian and the ambitions were demonstrated and certified by the first three challenges faced and won with authority and not by chance. But I have repeatedly said (and not just me, it’s a chorus of voices) that Our team’s roster is top-notch in 6+1 (the +1 is Jeff Brooks) American players (please note, USA only) objectively medium level in the Italian roster. This means that to obtain the results that the club has set for itself (arriving in a European cup and consequently in the play-offs) everything must proceed without behavioral and health problems. It is normal for an injury or seasonal illness to occur during a season, but two events of this kind which affected two of the fittest players have made it clear to us that we are immediately in trouble, that we have to resort to extreme playing time of at least 4 starters which inevitably leads to a squeezing of physical and mental energy, in fact against Reggio Emilia we actually saw a slow decay in the performances and output of the individuals and the team. With the exception of a monstrous Uthoff, who suffered from gastrointestinal problems during the week and vomited at will but was monumental on the pitch.

Having said this, without going into the analysis of the performances of the individuals also because physical problems can occur to each of the 7 Americans in rotation, what I want to say is that one must well understand or know the objective of the company. The team is good, the quality of the game is high, where do you want to go? For a quiet championship with a view to the play-offs, the roster as it is is fine, for an ambitious championship, in my opinion, corrective measures should be made. Inserting an extra Italian (as was done last year with Menalo) is not easy because there are few free quality subjects (Caruso would have been the right name) while an extra foreigner could be added, obviously leaving one in the stands for each match , depending on tactical needs.

Bologna side Virtus seems to be releasing Zizic, he would be the ideal piece for the game in the paint which is currently very lacking, but I fear that the Arcieri-Matiasic duo intends to bring only US players into the team.

Well, I think I’ve made my point clear, we are as beautiful to look at as ever in thirty yearsbut if we want great results we must structure ourselves so that in every match a team takes to the field that competes on an equal footing with everyone else and without the failure of key players who are difficult to replace in the current state.

Now we hope for the return of the sick, but we will only know in the pre-match of the Treviso match, where we go to win (at least in intention).
