One of the main ones bosses Italian ketchup producers have begun a crusade in Brussels against cheaper production from China’s Xinjiang region. The chief executive of the Mutti brand, Francesco Mutti, has urged European authorities to protect farmers from “unfair” competition from Chinese-made pasta and restore the “dignity” of Italy’s most representative red fruit. The businessman claims that it is necessary for the EU to ban these imports or apply much higher tariffs to safeguard the farmers of the transalpine country.
