Los Angeles took another step towards the coronation against the Yankees but lost perhaps the greatest player in the world today, Shohei Ohtani.
Japanese star Shohei Ohtani suffered a partial dislocation of his shoulder during the Los Angeles Dodgers‘ new victory (4-2) at home against the New York Yankees on Saturday, during the second game of the World Series, the final of the northern championship -American baseball (MLB).
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Ohtani was diagnosed with a “small left shoulder subluxation” — defined by the U.S. National Institutes of Health as a partial or incomplete dislocation — after he attempted to steal second base in the seventh inning. He left the field holding his left arm, elbow bent, close to his body, under the supervision of a trainer.
The 30-year-old will undergo an MRI to determine the severity of the injury, but Roberts said he was “encouraged” after an initial partial examination of his superstar’s shoulder, and he expects Ohtani to attend in the rest of the series played in the best of seven matches.
A two-time American League Most Valuable Player with the Los Angeles Angels before joining the Dodgers this season, Ohtani is expected to win the National League Most Valuable Player award this year after becoming the first to hit 50 home runs and steal 50 bases in one season.
The next meeting on Monday will take place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, just like the next two, after the first two won at home by the Californian franchise.
This is the 12th time in MLB history that the Dodgers and Yankees have faced each other in the World Series, a record, but the first since 1981, enough to revive the historic rivalry between the two franchises.
