The NBA season has started just over a week ago, but it is already giving the first indications, even on rookies. This year’s was described as one of the worst drafts ever for the talent and potential of the prospects, let’s say these first matches have confirmed it. When almost all the teams have now played 4 games (some 3) no rookie has particularly stood out, on the contrary.
Zaccharie Risacherfirst overall pick for the Atlanta Hawks, has scored double figures only once in 4 games: 13 points a few days ago against the Thunder. For the rest he’s just scoring 7.3 points averageyesterday against Washington he shot a paltry 1/8 from the field and faced one of the worst NBA lineups.
Not a better speech, actually perhaps worse, however Alex Sarrchosen immediately after him. The Frenchman had already had a traumatic impact with the NBA in the Summer League, the concerns were confirmed in these first games: 12 points against Cleveland, but then two horrendous games against Boston (2 points and 1/7 on the shot in his debut ) and against Atlanta (7 points with 3/11 shooting).
Reed Sheppardthird overall pick for the Houston Rockets, is considered by many to be the favorite for Rookie of the Year but so far he has had almost no role in his team. He averaged just 2.5 points in 4 games and in the last 2 his playing time was reduced to the bare minimum (6′ and 3′ in the two matches against San Antonio).
Little space even for Stephon Castlefourth overall call for the Spurs, and Ronald Holland IIfifth pick of the Detroit Pistons. The Turk Tidjane Salaünthe Hornets’ sixth call-up, totaled just one game and 9 minutes on the pitch against Miami. It didn’t get any better either Donovan Clingan (Averaged 4.3 points in 4 games with Portland) and continuing in the Draft order Rob Dillingham still has yet to play a minute.
Zach Edayninth overall pick, is perhaps the first who is performing consistently with the draft call given to him. The giant who came out of Purdue is averaging 7.3 points with Memphis and against Houston he flirted with a double-double (13 points and 9 rebounds).
Not everyone can be Victor Wembanyama, who last year had one of the best seasons ever for a rookie, but certainly a little more is expected from these players in the coming weeks.
