The prefecture confirmed this Tuesday, October 15 that the meeting scheduled for November 14 would take place at the Stade de France, under normal conditions despite the security context linked to the conflict in the Middle East.

Laurent Nuñez had already ruled out on Monday the hypothesis of a closed session. The Paris police chief confirmed this Tuesday, October 15, that the France-Israel football match, scheduled for November 14, would take place at the Stade de France. For several weeks, the question of whether this meeting counting for the 5th day of the League of Nations would be played behind closed doors or in the presence of the public was raised due to the context of war in the Middle East, which made the details of its uncertain organization.

Because of the conflict, Israel’s home matches have been taking place since the start of the competition in Budapest, Hungary. Last Thursday, that’s where the France team faced the country. In July, the Belgium-Israel match for the first day of the League of Nations had to be relocated to Debrecen, Hungary, and was played behind closed doors at the beginning of September. “Given that in Belgium, no local administration has considered it possible to organize the Red Devils’ home match against Israel on Friday September 6, explained the Royal Belgian Football Union in a press release, [nous avons] had to look for a solution abroad.” The authorities had in fact judged “impossible to organize this match at very high risk” in Brussels due to tensions linked to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. In the process, other Belgian cities also refused to host this match.

The match of November 14 will therefore take place in reverse, “under the usual conditions of a League of Nations meeting”, in the words of Laurent Nuñez, who nevertheless conceded on Monday that his organization appeared “extremely sensitive”.
