Spanish footballer Rodri won the Ballon d’Or on Monday, the award given annually to the best footballer of the year. But if you believe the reactions on Instagram, the winner is not Rodri, but the American singer Olivia Rodrigo.
Her Instagram account has been attacked since Monday evening by angry Real Madrid fans who believe that not Rodri, but Real Madrid striker Vinicius Júnior deserved the award.
As far as is known, Olivia Rodrigo has little to do with either football player. She has not spoken out in favor of Rodri’s win or expressed support for Vinicius Júnior. It appears to be simply the fact that the footballer’s full name is Rodrigo Hernández Castante – and that he does not have Instagram himself.
‘Vini robbed’
Under several posts by the singer, Real Madrid fans express their disagreement with the fact that their star player was not allowed to receive the award. “You robbed Vini,” they say. Or “You don’t deserve the Golden Ball.” The comments receive thousands of likes.
Others realize that these fans are addressing the wrong person and see the humor in it.
© InstagramThe fact that Vinicius Júnior did not win the Golden Ball previously led to angry reactions from the Real Madrid camp. That club was informed prior to the event that the prestigious award did not go to the Brazilian footballer. The club then announced that it would boycott the gala.
