The Karukera Sporting Club is mobilizing for Pink October in Capesterre-Belle-Eau

This weekend (October 19 and 20), the Karukera Sporting Club mobilized to organize a badminton-health event as part of Pink October, at the Sylviane Telchid college, in Capesterre-Belle-Eau.

In partnership with the Strides of the Pink Ribbon, the network of breast physiotherapists, the Lions Club and the town of Capesterre-Belle-Eau, the event was intended to raise awareness and prevent breast cancer.

Activities and workshops

Over two days, participants benefited from a variety of screening awareness activities and workshops led by health professionals.

A ladies’ doubles and mixed doubles badminton tournament was also organized, the majority of the profits from which will be donated to an association which helps patients cope better with their pathology.
The main objective of this initiative is to create a community that touches women and families through the practice of a sporting discipline.

Early detection

By joining forces, the partners hope to not only raise public awareness of the importance of early detection, but also promote a healthy lifestyle through sport.

Yann-Eric Morandaispresident of the Karukera Sporting Club, said more on Catherine Émélie’s microphone.

Some members were affected by this. We wanted to take action as part of Pink October, because badminton does not just stop at the sporting and fun side. We can take action and also support people who are recovering from cancer and help them continue to play sports.

This event aimed to convey a strong message: prevention is essential in the fight against breast cancer.
