Former Arsenal coach and current head of FIFA’s global football development, Arsene Wengervisited the exhibition “The Making of a Football Player”, which is currently being held at the Fifa Museum in Zurich. Part of the exhibition is dedicated to the captain of the Croatian football team and Real Madrid, Luka Modrić. It charts his journey from exile to winning the Ballon d’Or in 2018, when he ended Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo’s dominance of the prestigious award.
After visiting the museum, he addressed the media and dedicated a few words to Modrić. “I saw his statement here, he said that it was his dream to become a football player. But sometimes you have to wait a little longer for your dreams to come true, just like he had to, and that increases your motivation and passion. When everything doesn’t come to you right away, you have to learn to wait… It always is a pleasure to watch him how he plays and everyone who loves football has a huge respect for him,” said Wenger.

Wenger noticed him when he was playing for Dinamo Zagreb. Then the boys from Maksimir met Arsenal in the qualifiers for the Champions League in 2006. After that, the coach followed Modrić, but did not decide to bring him, considering that Cesc Fabregas already covers his needs for a playmaker.
