The Mets tie the series thanks to their big arms

Crushed 9-0 on Sunday, the New York Mets had to find a way to get back into their National League Championship Series and that’s what they did thanks to several home runs Monday night at Dodger Stadium.

Winning in Los Angeles, where the Dodgers maintained a 52-29 home record in the regular season, the second best in major league baseball, was not going to be easy. The Mets ultimately won 7-3, but they were hot.

Francisco Lindor quickly ended the Dodgers’ 33-inning scoreless streak. His solo home run to right field put New York ahead in the first inning.

That was far from all as Tyrone Taylor doubled the score in the second inning at bat for the Mets. With the bases loaded, two outs against him and a full count, Mark Vientos showed extraordinary composure by lifting the ball for a grand slam. Watch in main video.

The Dodgers got within three runs, but the Mets relievers gave them nothing in the final three innings. That opened the door for Starling Marte, who scored the seventh run on a single.

New York was especially able to muzzle Shohei Ohtani, who was satisfied with two walks.

Game 3 will take place at Citi Field on Wednesday.
