The club The Penne Archers today adds a new string to its bow. Odette Tamisier, the president of the club, can be proud of democratizing the practice of archery for all. “Sport must be accessible to all, without any distinction. Within the club, we firmly believe that every person, whatever their disability, has the right to participate fully in sporting life.” It is for this reason that the club has just taken a new step in inclusion by creating a section for blind or very visually impaired people, so that they can access a discipline which combines concentration, self-control and technique. .
Sport as a social bond
“We had suitable metal gallows built, continues Odette Tamisier. The person places their hand on part of the gallows, I make them feel the string and the bow, and I guide them with simple words like ‘try to shoot around 12:15 or around 12:30’. She must feel all the sensations of an able-bodied archer, in a spirit of conviviality and learning a technique.”
For Odette, but also for the entire management team of the archery and blowgun club, sport is much more than a simple physical activity, it is a vector of social bond, of surpassing oneself and solidarity. “It is our mission to integrate all disabilities in all the sporting disciplines that we offer. And all our members are aware of the importance of inclusion in sport. As I always say: together, we are stronger We can only invite the widest possible audience to support these initiatives and participate in this great human adventure, and even to be part of a community that values diversity and inclusion.”
