The Warriors’ frustrated ambition: Markkanen and George

There are few teams in the league that have been in as many trade rumors in recent months as the Golden State Warriors. Even more so if you take into account that they ended up not signing any. Countless names were linked to the San Francisco franchise last February, and today Draymond Green sheds light on the frustrated ambition of the transfer market.

The plan, Draymond admits, was to trade for Paul George and Lauri Markkanen. A movement that sought to confirm a new Big 4. “The conversation was always about that possibility. If you get both, you slam the table. But the Clippers were not willing and Danny Ainge was Danny Ainge,” the interior declares to The Athletic.

Green does not detail the ins and outs of the move or which players were on the table for the Warriors. Namely: Moses Moody, Jonathan Kuminga, Klay Thompson…

The interesting thing about the testimony, beyond revealing the interest in George, is in the underlying reality regarding Markkanen. Well, from his words it is deduced that there was a real offer and approaches, but that Ainge once again demanded unaffordable draft capital and young talent. Like so many other times.
