The thirty-eighth edition of the Cabildo Games presented today, October 11 in the Noble Hall of the Cabildo of Tenerife, hosts a total of 32 sports modalities: Chess, Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Handball, Beach Handball, Baseball, Bola Canaria, Campo a Traverse, BMX Cycling, MTB Cycling, Road Cycling, Frontenis, Futsal, Rhythmic Gymnastics, Judo, Canarian Wrestling, Swimming, Artistic Swimming, Orienteering, Figure Skating, Freestyle Skating, Rugby, Lifesaving, Surfing, Taekwondo, Table Tennis, Triathlon , Sailing, Volleyball, Beach Volleyball and Water Polo.

The vice president and Minister of Tourism, Lope Afonso, affirms that Juegos Cabildo is “an integrative program, the most effective in reaching society, and that also reaches the entire territory of the Island, thanks to its backbone capacity, incorporating everyone. The technician of the Sports Administrative Service, Javier González, points out that the 2024/2025 Cabildo Games continue in their clear commitment to promoting grassroots sports in Tenerife, organizing competitions and sports meetings in these 32 modalities, which translates into more than 200 concentrations in about 40 sports days, always on weekends, mobilizing more than 12,000 young people between the ages of 4 and 17.

One of the objectives that the Sports Administrative Service of the Cabildo de Tenerife intends to achieve with this program is to promote healthy living habits among the children and youth population, with physical-sports activity being a fundamental tool to counteract the alarming data of sedentary lifestyle and obesity in this population group in the Canary Islands, and the prevalence of overweight and obesity stands at 45.8%, 2.8 points more than in previous years, explained Javier González.

This program, with a budget this year that is around 800,000 euros, is carried out in all the municipalities of the Island, thanks to the collaboration and commitment of the 31 municipalities, which give up their facilities and resources so that the different days can be carried out. safely and in the best conditions.

On the other hand, it should be noted that in this edition we recover the transportation service for athletes, which, after a year of inactivity due to problems with the previous contract, is now available again to clubs and federations, which favors accessibility to anyone. of the competitions and meetings that will take place during this season.

Another of the great novelties of this season is the image of the t-shirts, medals and trophies that are awarded to participants and those monitored. An image that aims to highlight the philosophy of the Cabildo Games as an integrative program, through the representation of the peak as an illustrative element of our Teide, which with its multiple sizes and positions represents sport in its different forms, ages, physical conditions. , etc.

Furthermore, a multicolored image has been chosen that represents respect for diversity, due to the considerable number of modalities that the Cabildo Games contemplate, but also personal diversity, since each boy and girl has the right to choose how to be and What sport to practice?

On the other hand, and as usual, the Cabildo Games will produce the representative teams of Tenerife in the Canary Islands School Age Championships organized by the General Directorate of Sports of the Government of the Canary Islands, and another of the novelties of this edition is the design of the equipment they will use for this participation. Giving them modernity in their image and improving both the quality of the fabrics and the functionality of the design.

Finally, in the commitment to sustainability, as has been done in the last 8 editions, reusable bottles will continue to be delivered for refilling water during the development of the different days of the Cabildo Games.
