The NFL has decided: After 1994, 2000 and 2019, the Super Bowl will be played in Atlanta for the fourth time in 2028. The headquarters of a well-known sports sponsor is located there.
Super Bowl LXII will be played in Atlanta for the fourth time in 2028. On Tuesday, the US professional league NFL announced that the final game would take place in the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, which opened in 2017. The Atlanta Falcons play their home games there in front of a maximum of 71,000 spectators.
“This is a tremendous honor for the city of Atlanta,” said Falcons owner Arthur Blank. “I look forward to working with our city and state officials as we continue to position Georgia as a premier global sports destination.”
The last time a Super Bowl was played in Atlanta was in 2019. At that time, the New England Patriots with their star quarterback Tom Brady defeated the Los Angeles Rams 13:3. The final game of the current season will take place on February 9, 2025 in the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans.
Atlanta is also the city where major sports sponsor Coca-Cola has its headquarters. However, the beverage company had to take a back seat at the last Super Bowl, which was held in the southern metropolis: in 2019, its competitor Pepsi was the main sponsor of the NFL final. Pepsi has been one of the NFL’s largest advertising media since 2002.
In 2019, the New York company apparently had fun fooling its big competitor on its own doorstep. Pepsi had more than 380 billboards erected in the Cola City of Atlanta. At the time, a billboard near the World of Coca-Cola Museum read, “Pepsi in Atlanta. How refreshing.” An advertisement showed the sentence “Hello Atlanta. We’ll provide the drinks.”
