The commune of Bézu-Saint-Éloi was recognized a few days ago in state of natural disaster.
“Very good news for the victims who will be able to receive compensation,” welcomes Anthony Brunet, the mayor of Bézu-Saint-Éloi, in Eure. A village which was hit hard on the evening of May 23 by a rainy episode very violent.
In just twenty minutes, torrential rains had fallen in Bézu-Saint-Éloi.
Lots of damage
After the brief passage of this episode, elected officials and residents bitterly noted the damage.
In addition to the cellars filled with water, the grounds and the ground floor of five houses had been flooded, particularly in the Riquets district. In addition, a classroom at the school was completely flooded.
Another had its ceiling damaged while the canteen had also suffered the onslaught of water.
Finally, the main road in the town had even been closed to circulation until the next morning, due to a mud persistent present on the roadway. A sad record.
Faced with this observation, a ministerial decree, published on September 23, 2024 at Official Journalrecognizes several municipalities in Eure in a state of natural disaster, including Bézu-Saint-Éloi. Enough to put a little balm in the hearts of the victims who have until October 28 to declare their damage to their assurance.
“As a reminder, a week of cleaning was necessary in the town. This required a lot of energy, particularly to prevent water from invading a housing estate. We estimated the damage caused in the town at 10,000 euros,” the mayor recalls.
