Thomas Tuchel is presented as the new national team captain for England.

The 51-year-old German will take over the job from January 1, 2025.

“It’s a black day for England,” writes the Daily Mail when the FA hires a person from worst rival Germany to the finest job in English football.

The contract between Thomas Tuchel and England is valid over 18 months and the World Cup in North America.

Thomas Tuchel becomes the third foreign national team captain for England, after Sven-Göran Eriksson and Fabio Capello.

“England must be English right down to the material manager. We don’t need Thomas Tuchel, we need a patriot who puts his country first, second and third,” writes Jeff Powell in the Daily Mail.

“Throwing money abroad makes international football an imitation of club football. The association should have hired an English national team captain,” writes Sam Wallace in the Daily Telegraph.

“Top quality in the recruitment of new national team captains for England. He has proven that he is a winner with a great understanding of the English game. My only disappointment is that he is not an Englishman,” writes legend Michael Owen on X.

“Some incredible moments”

Former national team captain Gareth Southgate, with eight years in the position, chose to quit after the EC final loss against Spain in Berlin.

Since then, the Irishman Lee Carsley has filled in for the position, he returns from the turn of the year to the English U21 national team.

– I am very proud to have had the honor of leading the English national team. I have long felt a personal connection to football in this country, it has already given me some incredible moments. Getting the chance to represent England is a great privilege. The opportunity to work with this special and talented group of players is very exciting, says Thomas Tuchel.

Returning to England

According to the British press, Thomas Tuchel receives an annual salary of 4.5-5 million pounds.

Last season he was head coach at Bayern Munich, before that he has been in charge of Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain, Borussia Dortmund and Mainz.
