The Dutch top sprinters Harrie Lavreysen and Jeffrey Hoogland will compete against each other for the world title at the individual sprint tournament later today. They both reached the semi-finals well in Ballerup, Denmark.

Lavreysen defeated the Japanese Kaiya Ota in two sprints. Hoogland needed one more sprint, he won in three sprints from Nicholas Paul, from Trinidad & Tobago.

The Dutch sprinters will be back in action around 1.45 pm in the final, where Lavreysen can also win three gold medals at the World Championships after his hat trick at the Olympic Games.

World Track Cycling World Championship live at NOS

Sunday is the last day of the world track championships. In contrast to the previous days, the medal components will take place during the day.

The World Cup track can be seen from 1:30 PM on NOS on NPO1 and via a live stream. The sprint finals for men, the keirin tournament for women and the pairs race for men are on the programme.

Lavreysen previously won the team sprint (with Hoogland as a teammate) and the kilometer time trial at the World Championships. With his victory in that event he wrote history, as he has now won a world title in every sprint event. Only one track sprinter did this before him: Sir Chris Hoy, who announced at the World Championships that he only has two to four years to live.

Lavreysen can also win his sixteenth world title on the track in the sprint tournament. On Friday he won his fifteenth and broke Arnaud Tournant’s record (fourteen), giving the Dutch top sprinter the most world titles in the more than hundred-year history of the event.

From de Wouw to keirin quarter finals

Sprint star Hetty van de Wouw has in turn qualified for the quarter-finals on the keirin. She already showed her good legs in the first qualifying round. She started the sprint from the front, briefly dropped back to second place, but quickly managed to regain the leading position. She won her heat by a big margin.

Steffie van der Peet also qualified through the resits.

Earlier in this tournament, Van de Wouw won the silver medal in the individual sprint tournament, behind the British Emma Finucane. She also participates in the keirin and is on paper Van de Wouw’s biggest challenger.
